Last night on project runway was one of my personal favorite challenges, the innovative material challenge. The contestants were given $300 and 30 minutes to shop at the pet store for materials. So when I was thinking about what type of home challenge could be created this week to emulate the innovation/necessary creativity of the challenge but on a shoestring budget, because let's be real for a minute who the hell besides maybe Laura Kathleen has $300 bucks to blow @ a pet store on an extra curricular activity.
So, go forth and create from the random materials around your home, apartment and garage. Look for interesting and unconventional materials to create with. Anything goes, and its not just pictures of clothes that can be emailed to me. We are looking for any and everything, as my mom pointed out last week when she got involved and made a necklace. Good luck!

The End of the First Weeks
Well, this week proved a testament to the fact that it is hard to multi-task regular life with a runway challenge. That being said I still took it upon myself to finish what I had started. Last week inspired by the challenge on Project Runway I, along with my mother decided to use one old fabric and my ratty ass pajamas. Here are the results.
These pj were definately very very loved. However, there is a soap stain on it, and it really got gross after the wear and clear tear of the garment.
So my loved pj's became a nice wrap to accompany the yard of dollar fabric that I had in my garage, but never used.

My mom the who is an aspiring accessory designer, made this piece today to accompany the dress

Ratty Ass Pajama Challenge
Wow! This first episode was really something else. I was initially appalled at the judges decision to keep Anya in the competition because I, like sweet sweet Tim Gunn questioned her integrity. OMG, (kneeling to Heidi) Heidi is clearly an all knowing fashionista, since she is such a good judge of character with so little information I need to clone her and take her on dates with me. Seriously though, Heidi was spot on in judging Anya's character and tenacity to perform in this competition. I was sad to see Rafael go he appeared to have a great personality, although his outfit was bad I thought Julies was far worse with the elastic holding up her truly fucked up snowboarding on crack ensemble. Therefore, that leads me to this weeks challenge I would like to start a project runway challenge at home using one left over fabric and your most ratty pair of pajamas. So go ahead and reach into the goodwill basket and lets see what we can create at home. Also, I'm curious about comments on these outfits and will keep a running tab, so hopefully by next Thursday there will be a winner on the site.
I will be working with my favorite nightie that is a yellow cotton rib and has gotten seriously disgusting but I love it. I learned to sew in University but I constantly question my technical skills and second guess myself. I however have been inspired tonight by Anya who has even less technical training and produced brilliance. I will be posting a before picture on my form tomorrow of the piece I will be working on this upcoming week. Looking forward to seeing others out there join me in this Project Runway week to week fashion challenge, its an excercise in putting yourself out there either as a designer or fashion critic.

And So It Begins....
Tonight begins the ninth season of the hit series project runway, and while I enjoy watching the designs come down the runway, listening to the melodic voice of Tim Gun and the squabbles of the designers. At the end of my Thursday nights, I often feel withdrawls. I find myself digging my acrylic nails into my skin, fiending for more drama in the workroom, more of Tim's comments, and most of all the anticipation of the judges reaction.
More importantly though I almost always disagree with the end results of the show. Last season for instance, Gretchen had talent event though it was often hard to remember because she spent most of her time in the workroom bullying sweet sweet Michael C, and pretending to be Tim Gunn's stand-in (as if Gretchen). If I was a betting woman I swear, I would have lost the shirt off my back, because all my money would have been on Mondo. His talent eclipsed the competition, but the judges disagreed.
Which leads me to the purpose of this blog, this season I have decided that I want to be a female Tim Gunn, and I am sure there are readers out there that take on the persona of Nina Garcia, Michael Kors and Heidi Klum. Conversely, there are home trained, and up and coming designers out there that would like a platform for their work to be judged and for exposure, so on this blog we will be re-creating the challenges on project runway. Designers will email their pieces, I will upload and comment, and everyone else following can comment. Obviously, there is NO final prize at Bryant Park, $100,000 and an HP suite. But seeing as how all kinds of jackasses go viral, and create amazing careers seemingly out of thin air (i.e Snooki, entire Housewives Franchise, Rebecca Black....the list can go on and on) I think it might be great exposure for everyone involved. Also, it is like a project runway appetizer in between our Thursday night main course.
